2024-T2-Workshop #4-Child Safe Community Groups (ONLINE)

FREE

An introduction to the Child Safe Standards for Community Groups in Ballarat.

6.30 pm - 8.00 pm, Wednesday 15 May 2024

We all want to protect children when they engage with our community organisation or group.

Children have the right to feel safe and to be safe all the time but this requires commitment from everyone in the community.

The updated Child Safe Standards introduced into Victoria have been applicable from 1 July 2022. The standards support community organisations and groups to become child safe organisations.

The Neighbourhood Houses in Ballarat have been working through the standards, making some improvements to the way we operate to ensure children are, and feel, safe at all times when interacting with us. There are many of different ways in which community organisations already have a child safe culture – but there is always room for improvement. We are happy to talk through the steps we have taken and share ideas and resources to help your community organisation become even safer for children.

For those organisations which are required to comply, the standards are mandatory. Even if your organisation is not required to comply, we strongly suggest that you consider reviewing your policies and procedures to ensure that they put child safety and well-being first and that child safety is in every part of your operations.

To assist community groups and organisations, as part of the Community Governance Project, we are offering a Workshop introducing the Child Safe Standards. The Workshop will include a review of each standard and some practical steps that can be taken to implement them.

    Cancellation and Refund Policies

The Cancellation and Refund Policies form part of the Activity Terms and Conditions which are available in full online.

    Cancellation Policy

Ballarat East Neighbourhood House (BENH) reserves the right to cancel activities if the required minimum number of participants enrolled prior to the activity starting date is not met. A full refund will be given for payments received.

In the case that the activity teacher is unable to attend due to illness or an unexpected change of circumstances, the class may be postponed to a later date or cancelled. If the class is postponed and the rescheduled date does not suit a participant, a refund may be requested.

    Refund Policy

Fee refunds are not automatic and must be applied for in writing to the Manager.

The following will be taken into account before a Refund is issued:

    • Approved fee refunds are only processed after the fees have been cleared through the bank account.
    • A student excluded, suspended, or expelled under a BENH/Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre/ Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre policy or procedure is not entitled to a refund (except where any Commonwealth or State legislation or code of practice provides otherwise).
    • Where the student ceases training of their own volition prior to the midway point of the program (defined as midway through unit completion, or midway through time period of course, whichever is the earlier), the maximum fee refund will be 50% of the total fee payment.
    • Where the student ceases training of their own volition after the midway point of the program as defined above, no refund is payable.
    • Refunds will not be issued after course commencement except in exceptional circumstances or where funding guidelines stipulate this requirement. In exceptional circumstances a participant may apply in writing for special consideration of a refund for the following bereavement, hospitalisation and/or unexpectedly having to assume carer’s responsibilities.
    • BENH will not issue refunds for a change in working hours; inconvenient travel; moving interstate; job change or change of career direction or change of mind.
    • Actual attendance in class by the student will not be considered when assessing a refund request.
