Join Jane for this 8-week course designed to introduce you to the basics of Auslan (Australian Sign Language). You will have the opportunity to practise and build on your Auslan skills each week.
These sessions are supported by the Ballarat East Neighbourhood House Team. Although we informally collaborate with people within the local and broader Victorian deaf community, we are not fluent Auslan professionals and work based on local input and knowledge gained through other trained professionals. The facilitator of this activity is a hearing person, a qualified teacher and has a Masters in Special Education.

Upon arrival for your first session, you may be asked to complete a paper form and agree to the Ballarat East Neighbourhood House Activity Terms and Conditions. Online registration includes agreeing to the Terms and Conditions.
This is a Learn Local course, with costs subsidised by the Victorian Government through the Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre and delivered at the Ballarat East Neighbourhood House. Participants will be asked to complete a series of additional forms from Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre as a requirement of the Learn Local funding.
Please note: All Ballarat East Neighbourhood House activities are for 18 years plus unless otherwise specified. Please contact us if you have any questions about this.

COVID-Safe
In order to keep everyone involved with the Ballarat East Neighbourhood House safe, we recommend wearing a face-mask when practical to do so and using hand sanitiser regularly. Please do not attend activities with the Ballarat East Neighbourhood House if you have cold/flu symptoms. We will happily refund any pre-paid registration if you are unable to attend due to illness or potential COVID-19 exposure.

Cancellation Policy
Ballarat East Neighbourhood House (BENH) reserves the right to cancel activities if the required minimum number of participants enrolled prior to the activity starting date is not met. A full refund will be given for payments received.
In the case that the activity teacher is unable to attend due to illness or an unexpected change of circumstances, the class may be postponed to a later date or cancelled. If the class is postponed and the rescheduled date does not suit a participant, a refund may be requested.

Fee refunds are not automatic and must be applied for in writing to the Manager.
