For several years, the participant costs of our Community Auslan courses have been generously subsidised by the Victorian State Government's Learn Local program, through the Adult and Community Further Education (ACFE) program in partnership with the Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre. We have been very grateful for this support, allowing us to keep these 20-hour courses to under $100/participant.

This week we found out that the Learn Local/ACFE subsidy is no longer available for our Community Auslan courses. 

So, we are having to increase the price of the course to $199 for Term 1. We are taking expressions of interest to gauge how many of our participants will be able to continue at this price, as we will need minimum numbers of 8 per class to be able to go ahead at this price. If you are able to continue at this price, please register your expression of interest by clicking the Join Waiting List button below and entering your details, and we will be in touch to confirm whether this class can go ahead in Term 1 closer to the start date.

Ballarat East Neighbourhood House 

Join Jane for this 8-week course designed to use and develop your Auslan (Australian Sign Language). You will have the opportunity to practise in groups and build on your Auslan skills each week. Suitable for students with previous experience of Auslan. (Community Auslan A is suitable for beginners.) 

These sessions are supported by the Ballarat East Neighbourhood House Team. Although we informally collaborate with people within the local and broader Victorian Deaf community, we are not fluent Auslan professionals and work based on local input and knowledge gained through other trained professionals. The facilitator of this activity is a hearing person, a qualified teacher and has a Masters in Special Education.

Note re ACFE

Please note this course was previously subsidised as a Learn Local Course through the Adult and Community Further Education program, however this subsidy is no longer available for this course from 2026.
